Yemanja Brasil Restaurante, home of fine Brazilian dining will be celebrating Yemanja Day Feb. 2, 2011 in honor of Brazil's most beloved Sea Goddess.
Celebration festivities will begin at 5:00p.m. On this occasion, we will be serving a 4-course special seafood menu for $25.00 per person, includes appetizer, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert. Advanced reservations required.

Appetizer Selection
Oysters Ochún
Fresh oysters on-the-half-shell; serves with a tomato, horseradish sauce and lime wedges.
Acarajé Baiana
Black-eye peas fritter; served with a spicy shrimp sauce.
Empanadas de Camarão
Fried pastry pie stuffed with shrimp and Brazilian cream sauce; served with a spicy tomato dipping sauce.
Bolinhos de Caranguejo
Flaky, golden brown crab cake; served with pineapple relish.
Marisco Buzios
Fresh mussels steamed with a white wine, seafood broth.

Salmoa Bisque
Salada - Seasonal lettuce, shredded carrots, tomato wedges, fresh-baked herb croutons topped with our house creamy vinaigrette.

Entree Selection
Mar e Terra (Surf-N-Turf )
Charbroiled, top-cut sirloin stuffed with shrimp prepared in white wine, lime, mushroom, and red pepper flake sauce; served with mashed potatoes and asparagus.
Camarão na Moranga
Baked, acorn squash stuffed with an acorn, rock-shrimp cream sauce and garnished with a jumbo shrimp; served with rice.
Caldeirada do Mar
Seasonal fish, calamari, mussels, shrimp, and rice served in caldron with a spicy ginger, saffron, and white wine, seafood broth.
Salmão Tropical
Sautéed salmon in a cachaça, curry, and sweet basil sauce topped with a pineapples and grapes; served with coconut rice.
Pescado Miranda
Sautéed tilapia in a coconut cream sauce topped with fried bananas and provolone cheese; served over rice.

Dessert Selection
Churros
Brazilian doughnut. A crunchy tubular doughnut rolled in sugar with a passion, cream cheese filling and drizzled with chocolate; served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
Pudim de Coco
Coconut bread pudding on a bedding of our homemade rich caramel cream sauce topped with toasted coconut.
Strawberry Paveé
Champagne cookies dipped in Disaronno Amaretto liqueur, layered with strawberry puree, egg custard cream, Ypióca Crystal Cachaça (Brazilian rum) flavored whipped cream and topped with strawberry sauce.

It is customary for Yemanja's admirers to write down their wishes on paper and send them out to sea in a small boat. We will collect our customers' wishes in an especially decorated bottle and the owner dressed in white will send this bottle down the Mississippi River. Another custom is offerings of white roses presented to Yemanja. In honor of Her, our lady patrons will receive a white rose which symbolizes “Luck and Best Wishes”. All will be documented by photos posted our website.

Yemanja Brasil will also be holding a raffle (Now - Feb. 14th) to benefit the World Aquarium. The raffle tickets are $1.00 each for some great prizes.

The Mural Is Finished!

Come check out the latest artwork from renouned Brazilian artist, Cathleen Sidki.

Throughout Yemanja Brasil Restaurante's history, Cathleen has made many artworks contributions. She worked all spring on her latest artwork, and completed it on June 11th just in time for her return to Brasilia, Brazil, were she resides.

This art piece is a brilliant work - Warm Sunset: painting, acrylic on brick . In this mural, Cathleen has captured the flora and fauna of Brazil's tropical rainforest. Featured in the painting is a sloth, a spider monkey eating fruit, an alligator, an ocelot, several butterflies, as well as other insects and plants indigenous to Brazil's rainforest.

Yes, that's right patrons. Thanks to your votes; you made us the 1st Place Winners in the category of South American Restaurant in the Riverfront Times' Restaurant 2008 Poll.

Not only did we win the 1st Place category, we also placed in the Top Five in two other categories. We got 4th place for Favorite Outdoor/Patio, and the other placing really shocked us - 2nd Place Favorite Mojito. Favorite mojito, what mojito? Since when did we ever make a mojito? Oh, it must be the "Brazilian Mojito" - the one without mint and club soda. Why, that's the Brazilian National drink - the Caipirinha, not mojito. We know what all you patrons meant by that, and we appreciate your votes. Maybe next year the RFT will have a category for the caipirinha. Caipirinhas now over 100,000 served at Yemanja.

The hottest dish at Yemanja in not only hot, but it's cold. The latest rave of our guest have been our homemade Churros dessert. This dish features not one but two hot, golden-fried tubular doughnuts rolled in cinnamon-sugar, filled with fresh-made Carmel and is served around two cold, creamy vanilla ice cream scoops, then topped with more Carmel swirls.

It's PATIO Time Once Again! Yea, Spring - although a bit late.

"Outdoor Dining" will be available soon. We have just a few finishing touches to make before opening. Do to the weather, we have a hiatus in the works. When we do open, you will be please with the new features. We will officially be opening the patio on April 25th. As weather permits, "Outdoor Dining" will be available through early October.

Yes, it really happens. Tonight at 5:00pm, Yemanja Brasil is reopening after all our remodeling. The work took a bit longer than expected, and we appologize for the inconviences - especially to those of you who came to the restaurant without knowing. You will enjoy your dining expeience with the new loook and new menu items. Over the next month, we will be introducing the new menu and some other new looks. It's an ongoing process, but we didn't want to keep our guest waiting for the Brazilian taste too long.

We'd like to thank all our patrons for your patience during our remodeling.

Flooring Delays Reopening Until Fri, Feb 9th

We got all the painting finished yesterday, which put us on target, but we got a set-back.
The flooring company gave us bad news about the floors and time schedule. They are going to need extra days to fix the floors, strip the old varnish off, stain floors, and varnish them.

Yesterday, painting went according to plans.
Just the final paint job today. The floors get started on later today. It will be a four-day process. We also get the charbroiler installed today. more later...

The first day went well.
We got through the final prep-work and began painting the trim.
Late night we finished the trim. Today it's walls and ceiling.

We have begun the first steps to giving Yemanja Brasil a whole new look.
The restaurant is cleared out and ready for phase 1 - patching, spakling, taping, and finally painting. Check back and I'll tel you how the day went.

I wanted to inform all of you that Yemanja Brasil will be CLOSED for REMODELING and restructuring starting Tuesday, Jan. 30th through Sunday, Feb. 4th . Yemanja will be installing a charbroiler to offer flame-grilled meats and other kitchen features. Once the remodeling is finished, Yemanja Brasil will be fashioning a great new look from floors to decor to tableware. But the best feature wil be the new menu. Bet you can't wait to see what new Brazilian cuisine we will be introducing. Check us out... starting Tuesday, Feb. 6th.
